Sources Celtics 76ers Talking Trade for No 1 Warriors Shoot to Vegas Continue Celebration

  1. Sources: Warriors, Sixers talking trade

The Golden State Warriors and Philadelphia 76ers have discussed a trade that would send the Warriors' leading scorer, Monta Ellis, to the 76ers for Andre Iguodala, according to league sources, including one with direct knowledge of Golden State's thinking.

One source stressed that completion of the deal is not imminent but that it has merits for both sides.

The Warriors would beef up their perimeter size and defense with Iguodala, who is 6'6" and 207 pounds and can play shooting guard or small forward. Iguodala would be paired with the 6'3", 185-pound Stephen Curry at point guard and 6'9" small forward Dorell Wright.

The Sixers, meanwhile, would be getting an electric scoring guard in the 6-foot-3, 185-pound Ellis, create an opening at small forward for rookie Evan Turner, and slice some money off their payroll.

Ellis is owed $11 million for each of the next three seasons. Iguodala makes $13.5 million next season and the contract increases by $1.2 million each of the next two years.

Their current salaries are close enough that the swap could be made without any other additional considerations and meet league salary-cap rules.

  2. And so it begins....

I see this as being a real possibility now.

Thorn keeps stressing how we'll address our big situation in the draft.

We've all been speculating on the bigs we would like to acquire with Iggy, but we all know how difficult it is to find a young, big, defensive minded C on the trade market.

We need scoring, Monta is a top 5 scorer and is definitely the biggest name we'll be able to net with just Iggy alone since this seems to be a straight swap.

We're keeping Brand so we'll at least have one serviceable big to work with.

And I assume we'll get two more in the 1st and 2nd round.

Makes a little sense, but obviously not ideal. I don't like how undersized our backcourt is but we're lucky Jrue can guard two positions and if we're trying to match up with the heat when it's all said and done, it's fine.

The mavericks are running 5 migits against the heats backcourt and they're holding their own. Jrue is one of the biggest PG's in the NBA and he'll get bigger.

    PG: Jrue/ Lou
    SG: Monta/ Jodie
    SF: E.T/ Brackins or draft.
    PF: Brand/ Thad Young
    C: Draft big/ Spence

That's a deep squad and a very explosive backcourt rotation.

  3. ..............

  4. If this happens, I'll be the first to welcome you aboard monta. MAIN REASON...If anyone can get through to him and keep him in line, it's Doug Collins. Monta has the athleticism to be a contributor and pest on defense, he just needs a smack in the face.

  5. Wow. I'm not in love with it is my first gut reaction.
It makes sense for the Warriors because they have Curry and they might get another nice piece to build with in this draft, even though I think most NBA fans would think they're nuts.

For example, a Curry, Burks, Iggy starting together on the perimeter is maybe very good on both ends of the floor. I think it would make more sense for GSW if Iggy was younger, though, so that he's still in his prime while the draft pick was ready to contribute like a veteran.

For the Sixers, I would think this would mean the end of Lou. With Jrue, Turner, and now a more talented undersized scorer in Ellis, how does Lou fit into the equation? Maybe It's Iggy/Lou for Wright/Ellis?

I had the same initial reaction, but it's a quick fix and Monta is a better player than Iggy when it's all said and done. So I'll take more talent in any trade because it's always good to have top tier talent around, and offensively Monta is one of the best.

Id want to get a little more for Lou though, although Wright would be a good backup SF because of his 3pt shooting.

lol i know this demolishes the Jrue and E.T backcourt but the front office must be confident E.T can play at SF.

  9. only problem i have with it is that it makes the backcourt very small. the direction of the league is going big at the 2. having two guys under 6'5'' at both guard positions is gonna make it tough to defend many teams, specifically the miamis, bostons, orlandos, and chicagos of the league.

not to mention monta isn't exactly a defensive stopper.

wouldn't hate the trade, but i wouldn't exactly be jumping out of my seat, either.

    +1.

I'd see this as possibly being a step towards improved mediocrity, but almost certainly a big step away from developing a contender. It's short sighted and stupid.

I just really really would hate this move. It would cost me just about any confidence I have in the FO.

  11. Absolutely not. No. No. Hell No.

Monta scores better than Andre. Andre does every single other thing better than him.

It's doesn't even shed that much salary.

    76ers - Eagles - Flyers - Phillies

  12. If Wright starts at SF for us, then we'd have a 1-2 rotation of ET, Jrue, and Monta. That makes the size less of an issue. ET wouldn't have to be the full time small forward in that scenario. He could split time there with Wright.

ET could just be the 6th man off the bench getting 30 minutes.

To me, it makes more sense if Wright is in the deal with Lou becoming the 6th man in GSW. Even then, I'm not sure I like it for the Sixers, but I'd have to strongly consider it.
